Dave Grohl: Them Crooked Vultures Are 'Perfect'

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl says his return to drumming duties with the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures has been "perfect." Little has tempted Grohl back behind a kit since the demise of Nirvana, and aside from a stunning stint with Queens of the Stone Age for their career-high album 'Songs For the Deaf,' he's been largely content to assume the role of 'nicest guy in rock' as the frontman of the mega-successful Foos. Fans of his revered work as a sticksman rejoiced though when in 2005 whispers started to circulate of top secret sessions involving Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bass legend John Paul Jones.
Grohl told BBC 6 Music how "easy" it was to resume his previous role with the new set up, and how it felt when they got together for their first session. "I'd hung out with John but hadn't really jammed with him, but I sort of figured that because of the type of player that he is that it would work with Josh and I."
He added, "Within the first couple of minutes of playing, I knew it. I just knew this is going to be good. We had already found one of those moments where we were like, 'This is perfect.'"
Grohl went on to describe his motivation behind joining the supergroup and his desire to blow his new workmates away. "I didn't really care how it sounded to anyone else. I just thought, 'Man if I can make Josh [Homme] and John Paul Jones roll their eyes and go 'Wow, what was that?' That's all I tried to do."
After these early sessions the group was keen to keep the project away from the public eye and against all odds managed to do so until they unveiled Them Crooked Vultures at a Chicago gig in August 2009. "We had this amazing secret that we kept from everyone for so long,' Grohl said of the show, 'then we started playing the music and to see their faces as we played these songs. It's that moment of discovery and now they are getting the album."
Fans can now look forward to Them Crooked Vultures' debut album on Nov. 17 and a winter tour in support of it.

I am excited for Dave Grohl, but a little correction to your article. Dave Grohl has been a major contributer to Tenacious D for years. He has done drums for both albums, played the demon in the Tribute video, and the Devil in the movie along with other things. So this is not his return to drums. Tenacious D was.

WTF...i've never even heard of this so called "Super group"! Where do you lame ass journalists get off throwing that tag on some bunch of nobodies that you "hope" will one day ascend to your vicarious status? JESUS, get a real life and start calling them what they are.."NOBODIES THAT NEVER WERE"!

If you don't know who John Paul Jones is, or Dave Grohl is then you don't know enough to make such comment. They are NOT nobodies, as you call them.

It's almost sad how clueless you are. Everyone in that band is more famous than you will ever be. They're all rock and roll stars, and what do you do? The only nobody here is you Rob! GET A LIFE!

If you dont know who they are, you are obviously the kind of person who listens to Britney Spears and Rhianna, talentless wackjobs that wouldn't know a drum stick if someone hit them over the head with it.

How can you call Dave Grohl a nobody who never was? He was in Nirvana and fronts Foo Fighters...the guy has sold a ton of records by anyone's measure.

Spinner staff fails in the research department once again... Dave was also on 2005's Nine Inch Nails "With Teeth", in addition to Tenacious D's self titled in 2001 and again for "Pick of Destiny". Dave has been behind the kit a few times since Nirvana!

Correct and he had another side project called PROBOT where he played drums.
Sarah Rogersat 11-02-2009
Dave also played the drums for his Side project Probot...

**** I am so tired of "off-topic" SPAMMERS invading these comment areas! "Spinner" does some very interesting stories, and invites comments, but some really rotten souls flood these boards with "Lose Weight Now", "Cheap Insurance", and "Dating" posts!!! COME ON ALREADY! Do THEY really think that we are so stupid that we are going to click, and go to their unrelated, self-serving, and probably BAD virus - identity theft websites?!!
PLEASE REPORT these offenders to: www.SPAM.UCE.GOV and let's try to get rid of them! Thank you for YOUR time reading this. Take care.

was excited till I heard their music. Sounds like Led Zepplin meets Primus with a hint of suck. Too bad coulda been glorious if there was some of David's signature vocal melodies and harmonies he made so famous in the Foo.

LMAO, hint of suck, thats great.

I am glad that Grunge died.I hated that "music" which killed off most of my favorite 80's hair bands!
