When Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are together, something magical happens. It was seen in their film, 'Once,' and it's heard in the heartfelt harmonies of their music. But in their new video for 'Low Rising,' the opening track from their recently released album, 'Strict Joy,' the couple that they play is clearly disillusioned, and it's heartbreaking to see.The duo, collectively known as the Swell Season, find themselves going through their daily motions in the video -- eating eggs and toast, putting the tea kettle on the stove -- with a literal cloud over their heads that's silently infiltrating everything they do. The visualization matches the song's heavy yet hopeful tone when in the end, they step outside and see it's raining on everything and not just them. A smile and an embrace make it seem like things will be all right after all, and the feeling of enchantment returns.
At the time of their album release, things are certainly more than all right for the Swell Season. Hansard and Irglova are currently on tour promoting 'Strict Joy,' kicking things off last night in Milwaukee. Catch them on the road after watching the exclusive premiere of 'Low Rising' below.

Er -- you kind of left out a very important factor. They were a couple and broke up -- so what do you want??? I'm surprised (and glad) they can still work together. Please remember to include pertinent facts - K?

These guys are too awesome for words. I saw them last night and it was absolutely brilliant. I talked to them after the show, and it was great. Sometimes you meet your idols and they turn out to be jerks. Not so with Glen and Marketa. They are just awesome people.

We just got back to Lexington KY after a night in Indy to see The Swell Season. The most amazing passion filled concert I have seen in years………………….! No, ever!!! I loved listening to the unfolding of vignettes of people’s lives in song. Glen, it was great talking to you after the concert. Wish we could have all gone out to breakfast for a good crack. Thanks for the leaf…the kind words and your smile. Enjoy the ring and hope to see you guys in Dublin sometime. The Roaches

Such a great video idea, absolutely loved it and Marketa looked so beautiful, even when soaked...it's those eyes. She looks sooo young for 21. But, I wonder if Glen really let his guitar get wet.

The song is about being really honest and saying that he wants both the best of times and the worst of times with her...just so long as she is there with him. Or am i misreading it?
