After a lengthy history of troubles, Courtney Love, the ex-singer of Hole and widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, has lost custody of daughter Frances Bean Cobain. According to TMZ, the announcement came in a Los Angeles court on Friday during a hearing that Love was absent for. Citing both personal and financial reasons, the court granted custody to Wendy O'Connor and Kimberly Dawn, Kurt Cobain's mother and sister.
While many of the appointment's details remain sealed, it's also been reported that the new guardians do not have access to Cobain's trust fund. Currently 17 years old, Frances Bean Cobain has just over eight months before reaching legal adulthood.

It's too bad she can't straighten up. Some day Courtney Love will realize how bad she screwed up and missed out on spending time with her daugter.....These years would have been the most wonderful years of her life.

The problem is - is isn't about Courtney. Francis Bean is going to have difficulty trusting and will most probably have strong abandonment issues. She probably already thinks there is something wrong with her that Mom doesn't love her enough to straighten up. These issues will probably follow her throughout her life. That's one of the reasons to get help and quit. Addicts always think it is just their life they are messing up, but they affect everyone who tries to love them.

Oh sure Courtney is the worse of the two evils but Cobains mom had her chance to raise a child and it seems to me she dropped the ball (on kurt). Despite having Love as a parent Francis appears by all accounts to be a well adjusted young lady who has her head firmly on her shoulders. I for one will be glad when she is old enough to make her own decisions since neither the Cobain's nor Love have shown half the maturity Francis has.

How did Wendy let Kurt down? To my knowledge she was not that bad, Kurt was the kind of person who would have struggled in life no matter who his parents were. It's such a shame that Courtney can't get herself together enough for Frances but at least she is staying within the family rather than strangers.

I totally agree!!

I don't understand why they waited so long. I hope Courney cleans up. God bless her Daughter.

They wanted to wait until she was closer to getting the trust fund money. Like I posted before... If they really cared about her, she should have been gone ages ago. Like when she was a CHILD in her formative years. They're just seeing dollar signs $$$$ :)

R U stupid or just can't read (or both?) It says her grandmother & aunt "DO NOT" get any control over any money. Get your facts correct!

The correct term is "widow"....not "former wife"!!!

maybe you could call her murderer, if you want to. I will never believe that Curt shot himself. He had too much drugs in his system to be able to pull a trigger let a lone hold a shotgun. Also how did he use his credit card "after" he was dead?
Michaelat 12-14-2009
According to Courtneys lawyer this was a decision Frances made. It's not because Courtney is on drugs again. Stop talking shit.

Yes, those that are gibbing on about the money seem to forget that this was Frances's decision. She obviously no longer wants to associate herself with her mother.

Not only is she an unfit mother,....she's an unfit human....
mikeyat 12-15-2009
and im guessing you're perfect ed? never made a mistake in his life? a squeaky clean past? i think part of being a good human being is compassion and heart which you seem to be lacking these days, stop being such a bully and kicking someone when they're down, shame on you...

Kurt would be rolling around in his grave right now, he would have never let this happen.....oh that's right...Courtney had him creamated to get rid of any evidence...because now that he's dead...she gets all his money instead of nothing in a divorce that was going to happen until he died...the only reason I buy and support the Nirvana empire is for Francis. She was everything to Kurt and will always be looked after by him. As far as Kurt's family goes, I agree that they can get money from his royalties, but not in the way they're doing it. I hope Courtney realizes what she's done and fesses up to everything she's done.....

WOW!!!! You must be a detective!! You're a genius. He killed himself. Time to move on. Elvis is alive too!!
I never think she got the professional help that she needed after he died. I feel bad that she was never able to get it together. Poor Francis has now lost both parents, or maybe never had either. I don't know, not there day in and day out. Hope they can still have some sort of healthy relationship. I am sure it will take a long time.

Ah but Kurt DID let it happen. The day he painted the wall with his cortex, and took the coward's way out of the mortal coil. He left it all behind him. HE abandoned his daughter and left her with Courtney.
Ftances is lucky to be alive in the first place, as her mother is not known for being a sober person anyway. What amazes me, is the fact that Frances was not taken from Courtney much earlier on.
Rachelat 12-15-2009
As much as I love Kurt, he DID let this happen, he is the one who chose to end his life when he had a daughter. Not that it's any excuse but Courtney never took hard drugs until she met Kurt and she is no longer on drugs now. Their relationship is a classic example of why two messed up humans should never have got together and reproduced. Frances has done well to be as level headed as she is at such a young age.

These court issues can take years. We are the blessed parents of a 29 yr old niece. She came to live with us at 14. Both parents did not contest her placement, custody & guarianship and it still took 3 yrs for her 'adoption'thru the court system. She was well worth waiting for and is an irreplacable member of our family.
If Courtney put up a fight it may have been going on for years...My prayers are with Francis.
