The Kinks to Release Unheard Songs on New Album

Mick Avory, longtime drummer for seminal British rock group the Kinks has reconfirmed that they will be releasing a new album in the near future, working from archive tracks written by Ray and Dave Davies.

Speaking at the launch of London Legends Rock Masterclasses, where he will advise budding percussionists from Apr. 27, Avory told Spinner, "Things are always bubbling under or over with the Kinks -- I'm never quite sure if we're going to do them or not. We are certainly doing another album. We've got old tracks which need to be baked. You have to go through this process to transfer them to digital, it's a bit of a process and you only get one shot at it.

The drummer confirmed, "We've certainly got eight tracks we could use there, so we're going to have to do some more to make the numbers up for an album."

Speaking about the famously feuding rock 'n' roll Davies siblings, Avory said the delay in releasing the new album is because "in our case it's Ray and Dave that have got to work together, once they've slotted together, we can go ahead. All the while they are not wanting to do what the other wants to do, it goes nowhere."

The Kinks last performed together in 1996, and are now one of the few '60s British bands whose members are all still alive and performing music.

Avory is just one of the artists taking part in the five-day Rock Masterclass at West London's Metropolis Studios next month. Others teaching and coaching include the Sex Pistols' Glen Matlock, Squeeze's Chris Difford and Ian McLagan of the Faces and Small Faces.

Who knows, maybe when Bruce Springsteen decides
to retire, he'll finally release his unheard
songs from that 4-CD Box Set that almost came out.

Love the Kinks. I have over 30 LP's by them and their various members. By far my favorite of the British Invasion bands. I will certainly buy this one as well. God Save The Kinks!

Gee, I guess you must have missed "All Day and All of the Night", "Well Respected Man," "Dedicated Follower of Fashion," "Sunny Afternoon," "Who'll Be the Next in Line," "Tired of Waiting for You," "Til the End of the Day," "Lola," "Victoria," "Waterloo Sunset," "Where Have All the Good Times Gone," "Superman," "Low Budget," "Sleepwalker," "Do it Again," "Catch Me Now I'm Falling," "Come Dancing", "Don't Forget to Dance," "Destroyer," and "A Rock & Roll Fantasy", just to name a few. That's like Oprah calling Rick Springfield years ago because she was doing a show featuring one-hit wonders. If you look up his hits, he's had nearly 20. Do your homework before you post stupid comments. The Kinks have had a 30-plus year run on the charts!

Jimmy Page did NOT play the solo on "You Really Got Me." That's long been proven false, and it's even been denied by Jimmy himself...but some people just won't let that one go.

Moesha is just a bigot or racist. We all know what trailer trash is a euphemism for. Keep spouting your prejudiced hate there Moesha, I feel sad for you and your small-minded petty worldview.
