In an interview with Billboard, the former Beatle spoke about his first ever visit to the White House, admitting "I'm a fan of the president. I believe that he's been dealt a bad hand. He came into that job with a lot of difficulties on his plate that weren't of his creation."
"The idea of playing in the White House was very interesting. We wondered what the acoustics would be like, but they turned out to be great. So we had a great time, just the event of it all. We were all very excited. From me, myself, to the lowliest crew member, we were all buzzing," he added.
McCartney's emotional highlight, he said, was performing 'Ebony and Ivory' with soul legend Stevie Wonder in front of the first family.
"To sing it live together for the very first time with the first black president there, it suddenly gave a great significance to the song, " he explained.
"Sometimes you write a song in a certain era and it's got a certain kind of significance. I don't think I would have imagined then that it would be quite so soon that America would elect a black president. It wasn't that soon, but it was a relatively short period of time. To sing it with Stevie in front of President Obama was very emotional. The lyrics to the song suddenly seemed to have more significance to me in that setting."
The gig also featured appearances by Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, White Stripes' Jack White and Elvis Costello, amongst the star-studded line-up.
PBS will broadcast the concert as part of its "In Performance at the White House" series on Wednesday, July 28 at 8 pm EDT.

You're an ass! Don't even try to defend yourself as I don't dialogue with people who are clearly stupid.
Mr. McCartney, Sir Paul to many, is one of the classiest, friendliest, people oriented, and to most a treasure and a talent.
You go to a Paul McCartney concerts as I have and you will see no less than 5 generations. And the youngest ones, generally 8 or 9 years young will be singing word for word. Now why don't you be a big girl and apologize to everyone for your stupidity.

commas, periods, spellcheck...tools for morons to sound educated....talk about a moron!!! you wouldn't know good music if it was plugged into your butt!!

Patty, perhaps you should take a semester or two in an English College and learn grammar and spelling.
"Our" is not spelled "ARE". Idiots, not "Idoits" your "mess" needs an "ed" on the end. Your punctuation and capitalization is a disgrace.

I'm sure his crew members are delighted to be referred to as "lowliest." What an ass he is.
Lauraat 7-28-2010
I agree, , come on Pauly how would you work without all the lowly people, where do they all come from?

Gee, so happy Paul is a fan of Obama and thankful that,as far as I know, is NOT a citizen of the U.S.
Quite frankily Paul screwed his fan base with his comments...FYI, Paul. Every president walks into a conflicted arena...Obama's major problem is that he has absolutely no interest in the American peropl, has never actually held a job, knows nothing about management and is a complete loser! The best thing for the U.S.A is that Obama is NOT reelected so then Paul can play with Obama's "celebrity" status....seems he thinks he's a celebrity...not a president.
Sophiaat 7-27-2010
OMG, great communtary! I could not agree more, Obama is not for the US and will never be. His alliance leans to another region of the world unfortunately, Think November Sea!!! Dem or Repub, people with principle have got to represent us.

Until he made his foray into political humour I thought very highly of Paul McCartney. Through my lifetime I've sseen the advent of the Beatles, their break up, their solo efforts, etc, etc, etc... Don't think too highly of him anymore.
Where the hell does he get off coming to our country and busting on one of our former presidents? A president who, by the way, whether you like him or not, has two degrees and is married to a librarian, so I'm pretty certain he "knows what a book is".
I was stunned hearing him say that, not entertained. It wasn't the least bit humorous.

It seems Sir McCartney is rather critical of American and Americans that it took so long to have a black President. I don't keep up with British politics all that well, but I can't think of any black royals, or black Prime Ministers, or any high-level black politician. Any one to inform me ??

I'm just glad that Obama did not belittle, besmirch or Scorn Paul or scold him for making too much money. I think what happened is Paul was hanging around too many Democrats. The Democrats would greet each other by saying it is all Bush's fault. If they shook hands they would say Bush is bad. If anything went wrong that day - he probably heard how it was Bush's fault. The Dems might have even chuckled a few Bush insults. Paul observing this probably thought it would be okay if he did as they did and rattled off a bad Bush joke.
I still enjoy his music - just not his politics.

omg, what if paul buddied around with hayward from bp?

OMG, will you people get over it already. Everyone is entitled to their opinion ( you, me and McCartney). McCartney is a "fan" of Obama. Must mean the world will end as we know it. Republicans are the most uptight bunch of people I have ever seen. Loosen up. BTW, McCartney owns numerous homes in the United States and pays a great amount of tax on those homes. So, he does contribute to our economy and therefor I think it is proper that he has something to say about our government. Peace ...

Ronald Reagan inherited a worst situation in the domestic front and the foreign front from Carter. Yet, Reagan did not spend 2 years blamming Carter. Reagan started to work from day one under conservative principles kickin butts here and abroad.
Both Paul MCarney and Obama are two liberal marxist morons.
